great adventure! I spent 4 days staying at Otorongo lodge, fantastic experience. its 2.5 hrs by fast boat down river from Iquitos. cabins are basic but comfortable and well maintained. no windows just wire mosquito mesh. food is very good. Went out each day on small boat with guide and boatman looking for birds, monkeys , Sloths and dolphins saw plenty! went out at night on small boat up side tributaries amazing experience youre right in there close to the jungle! you'll see caimen, owls, hawks and small snakes up close, and the endless shreiks and chatter of the jungle. top memory was seeing a 2 metre bush master snake glide past right in front of our small boat! the guides atre all from the local river communities, they grew up here, they know exactly what theyre doing and how to get the best out of it for you! if you just want a general jungle wildlife experience, if you want to fish for big Amazon species (Catfish, bass, Rays), if your a specialist scientist who wants to see one particular species, then this is place to stay!

Incredible! If you are considering visiting, go! We traveled as a mother-daughter duo and felt safe and well cared for the entire time. Otorongo and their staff made this trip so enjoyable! Booking online and communicating with Ivonne and Anthony was easy and stress free. We met our guide (Eddie) at the airport and he rode with us to the port and on the boat to the Otorongo Amazon River Lodge. The accommodations were just right, they allowed us to hear and connect with nature while still having a private room and bathroom. The magic of this place is the people! Our guide, Eddie, worked with us to develop the itinerary for our stay and made suggestions based on our preferences. Most days included 3 activities with breaks in between based on the heat and sun. Eddie and our local guide, Hiel, made the activities memorable and very enjoyable! They were experts at finding various animals, snakes, and insects. Eddie shared a lot of knowledge about the Amazon and its history, as well as the various species we encountered. We saw monkeys, sloths, many birds (toucans included!), snakes, tarantulas, frogs, baby caiman, dolphins (pink and gray), and more! The staff at the lodge, including the chef and housekeeping, were friendly and the food was awesome! We were well fed throughout the stay and they were very accommodating with food sensitivities. If you are on the fence about visiting, book now! We had an incredible time, during which the lodge took care of transportation and other details, so we just had to enjoy the experience!

Me and a friend did a 4d/3n stay during wet season and it's unlike anything I've ever done. The lodge is rustic so like the description says don't go in expecting luxury. This is really an opportunity for you to unleash your adventurous spirit and safely visit one of the wildest places in the world. Our guides were excellent. The food is fantastic. And I saw wildlife that I never imagined I'd see. 6 species of monkey. 2 species of river dolphin. 2 species of sloth. Iguanas, frogs, spiders. Piranha fishing. And a visit to a local village that helped me understand how people are making a life in the Amazon. Totally happy I went with Otorongo!
I stayed at the lodge in 2013 and never left a review, but the experience has stuck with me in such a positive way, I am finally getting around to it a decade later.
I don’t remember the owners name, but I vividly remember his kindness and attention to detail. Hernan our guide was truly one of the most incredible souls I have ever encountered. He introduced us to the wild beauty of the Peruvian Amazon and showed us things beyond our wildest dreams; canoeing with pink dolphins, fishing for pirañas and orange spotted sting rays, roasting marshmallows over a massive bonfire (with a porcupine watching our every move from a tree branch overhead), witnessing lily pads the size of area rugs, taking us on flashlight led tours late at night to explore the nocturnal scene, swinging like Tarzan from vines, pointing out sloths and other incredible wildlife only his eyes could spot, and so so so much more.
They made sure we were safe, our bellies full of fresh grown/caught food, and every detail accounted for. Truly an experience of a lifetime.
I could not recommend this lodge more.
