OPTION 1: Nanay River Day Trip
Itinerary:
8:30 AM - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Bellavista Nanay Port. Explore the local Nanay Market before boarding a boat up the Nanay River, passing through the Padre Cocha Community.
9:30 AM - Arrive at Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm. The visit lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This farm not only houses a variety of butterflies but also serves as a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, protecting animals like sloths, macaws, ocelots, and jaguars that have been victims of poaching and trafficking.
After the Butterfly Farm - Navigate down the river to the confluence of the Nanay River (black water) and the Amazon River (muddy/brown water). Here, witness the striking contrast between the two types of water, and look out for pink and gray dolphins.
Continuing Journey - Visit the Independencia Community. A 10-minute walk leads to El Mirador del Amazonas (Amazon Viewpoint) for breathtaking views of the Amazon Jungle and the majestic Amazon River.
1:30 PM - Lunch served on board.
2:00 PM - Continue down the Amazon River to Fundo Pedrito in Barrio Florido Town. This wildlife refuge and fish farm allows you to admire and feed unique fish like piranhas and Paiche (Arapaima gigas), and observe giant lily pads.
4:30 PM - Return to Iquitos.
